Adventures of a Night Nurse

Monday, November 14, 2005

I had a tonic-clonic seizure when I was fifteen. It's the same thing as a grand mal seizure, just an updated term. Since then I've only had clonic and absence, or petit mal, seizures. I was diagnosed with JME-juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. Now they say I just have a generalized seizure disorder. I have a particularly defunct electrical pathway in my occipital lobe. I am lucky because I am well controlled with medication. Not all people with seizures are. 600mg of Lamictal daily keeps my brain in a nice lull. The first year I was diagnosed I took nine pills a day. That's plenty for a 15 year old. Then they took me down to two, now one, thank God. I've been told time and again that I'll never be able to go off my medicine. I'm sure this is better than having the occasional seizure.
